Catching up with.... Jacky Goddard
Welcome to Southend Scout and Guide Gang Show's monthly feature 'Catching up with'. Here we will catch up with cast past and present as well as the adult volunteers who make It's a Date and SHINDIGS possible.
This month we talk with former Southend Gang Show Director and now costume team member, Jacky Goddard.
- Introduce yourself and tell us what your role within Southend Gang Show is?
I'm Jacky Goddard and have been a cast member (1968, 1970, 1972), on the executive committee (1968 to 2015), part of the costume team since my first show, and show director (1980 to 2012).
- When was your first Southend Gang Show and how many shows have you now been a part of?
My first show was in 1968 and I've been involved in every show since, 25 and counting!
- Best moment being a part of Southend Gang Show?
Lots! Firstly, I met my husband whilst doing the show and we now have both our children, three grandchildren and also nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews in the show. Being able to help make it possible for Southend Gang Show to perform at the Royal Albert Hall and the 02 Arena was also a real highlight.
- What do you get out of being a part of Southend Gang Show?
I love seeing the young people enjoy themselves, challenge themselves, make life long friends and achieve so much.
- Why do you think people should get involved in SHINDIGS 2017?
It’s fun !!!
- Favourite Southend Gang Show item?
Oh my goodness, so many! 25 shows is also a lot to remember! I enjoyed the dance items that I was in, I still love Joseph’s technicolour dream coat, I enjoyed the Captain Beaky items and just to wind the back stage crew up, Peter and the Wolf. Oh and I liked the Frog chorus. I could go on and on!
- What have you been up to in the past few months since It’s a Date 2016?
Like lots of others, Essex International Jamboree.
- What are you most looking forward to about the next SHINDIGS/It’s a Date?
Lots of my Guides and Rangers signing up as they always do!
